Joyner Supports JDRF
Joyner Elementary has been a great supporter of JDRF for many years.  Join us as we kick off this year’s fundraising campaign to help children with juvenile diabetes. Joyner students and staff are “Co’in Crazy” from October 15 through October 24.  Homerooms will compete to collect money each day. Jars for coins and paper money will be in each homeroom.  At the end of the competition, a prize for the most money raised will be awarded at each grade level.

We will join together to support this worthwhile cause at the JDRF walk-a-thon on Saturday, October 25.  You can log-on to walk.jdrf.org and register to be a part of our team. Here’s how:

  1. Click on this link JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes
  3. Click on REGISTER
  4. Click on JOIN A TEAM
  5. Sign up as a New or Existing Participant and click SIGN UP at the bottom
  6. Type “Joyner Jaguars” in the Search By Team box
  7. Follow the prompts from here to join our team!

Bottle Caps Needed
We are helping a local artist and Joyner parent by collecting bottle caps. This is also a 4th grade project. Please send your bottle caps of all shapes and sizes to school and have your child drop them off in the bin in the front hallway or down in the cafeteria. Thank you for helping us keep the environment clean!

AIG nomination and testing for grades four and five:
Nominations for AIG testing for grades four and five must be received no later than Thursday, Oct 16, 2014 (first semester only.)  Please make your nominations as early in the year as possible.   Teachers and parents may nominate students.  Students may self-nominate.  Testing requires five days.  Students must take both the CogAT and Iowa tests.  Please contact Mr. Whitehurst at hwhitehurst@wcpss.net  or (919) 664-5654 for more information.  All testing will be completed prior to Friday, October 24, 2014.

Communication Tools

There are several ways to stay informed of all the events and news happening at Joyner. Teachers will send newsletters and/or emails with news from their classroom. Every Sunday, parents and guardians will receive a weekly message via phone. You will find the text version linked from this website by Monday. Also, you can follow us on Twitter. We have several Twitter feeds that you can follow. @JoynerBuses will tweet out updated information on when buses leave and any news in regards to transportation. @JYJoyner will send out general news for the school. And follow @JoynerPrincipal and @JoynerAP for tweets from Ms. Hutchinson and Ms. Taylor on the learning and fun that they capture throughout the day. If you don’t have twitter, remember you can always set up direct texts from these twitter feeds. Click here for directions.

Inclement Weather

If there is possible inclement weather coming, please watch your local news channel for updated information on possible delays, closings or early dismissals due to the weather impact on the road conditions. Wake County Public Schools will also have updated information on their website, Twitter and Facebook. Weather updates will be re-tweeted on all of the Joyner Twitter accounts. In the event of an early dismissal due to weather, please remember that our After School Program will NOT be open and alternative plans need to be made.

Take a Joyner Jaguar on Your Journey

Is your family planning an educational trip this year?  The Joyner Jaguars are ready and waiting to join JYJ families on their travels and explorations around the world.  We are looking for adventurous people willing to take along a Joyner Jaguar, capture a photograph with the jaguar on location, and then write a brief journal entry telling about the trip. Journal entries and pictures will be posted on the Joyner Jaguars travel blog at www.joynerjaguars.blogspot.com. For more information please contact Ms. Bell by e-mail, jbell3@wcpss.net, or stop by the computer lab when she is available.
