Birtha Comes to Joyner

Joyner is the PROUD recipient of Birtha the Cow. Birtha was presented to Joyner in honor of Embree Duffy, a cancer-surviver and Joyner Second Grader. Birtha is one of 79 cows painted by local artists to support children's cancer. These cows were auctioned this spring and raised over $300,000 for NC Children's Hospital. Birtha was donated to Joyner by Wells Fargo.

JYJ Teachers go Downtown
North Carolina has adopted Common Core as our new curriculum. An important part of Common Core is using REAL WORLD teaching and learning to better engage our students. Joyner teachers spent the Early Release day on Friday, Sept. 21st in downtown Raleigh (in the real world) reflecting on Common Core and looking for ways to make our learning and teaching authentic. Here is a video of our experience!
