Joyner Elementary runs on the Traditional calendar. Currently, the following Traditional calendars are available for download.

 

Our hours are from  8:20 to 3:00 (8:20 to 2:00 on Wednesdays).

 

For two consecutive years Joyner has been recognized by the Magnet Schools of America as a Magnet School of Merit, receiving the designation of Magnet School of Distinction in 2008 and the prestigious designation of Magnet School of Excellence in 2009.

We are a Center for Spanish Language.  All students K-5 have daily Spanish instruction with most students conversational by the end of 5th grade.

 

Joyner is an  International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) Magnet School which emphasizes community service to promote international understanding and responsible citizenship.  We develop cultural understanding through art, music, and dance.  Joyner creates a learning environment in which students use structured inquiry to help construct their own knowledge; strengthen literacy and communication skills in English and Spanish; increase positive, cross-cultural attitudes; and create an understanding of their world through community involvement and collaboration.

 

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college.  Kids apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.  They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. We have one of the most successful programs in the nation.  In the last 8 years we have finished in the Top 6 in the World at the OM Finals on three occasions (2001 World Champs, 2003 Third place in the World, 2009 6th place in the World. 

 

We have our very own morning news program, "WJYJ Jaguar News Channel 10 - Buenos Dias Joyner," which is broadcast daily throughout the school.

 

We offer chorus, safety patrol, a JAG publishing center, writer and artist residencies, musical productions for all students in grades one, three and five, a leveled book room, school spirit days, Science-Go Round, a nature trail and access to Kiwanis Park.
